Kenny:
Thanks. I'll upgrade and then see what happens. Didn't realize this was so far
out-of-date.

Hi.
Where did you get your instructions? There isn't an orca.conf.
Orca settings are stored in files in your ~/.orca directory.
The first thing is to upgrade to Ubuntu 7.4. The Gnome and Orca in 6.2 is over a year old.
The error you are getting refers to the X display, not the Braille display.
You probably typed the orca command in a text console instead of in a gnome-terminal.

Hello:
I have UBUNTU Linux 6.2 installed on a Dell server. Using apt-get, what appears
to be the most recent version of ORCA is installed. Finally, brltty is
installed and working in console sessions with a Vario 40.
I have two questions: 1. As instructed after updating ORCA, I went to have a
look at /etc/orca.conf. It's not there, and there's no orca directory there
that might contain orca.conf. Where should it be, then?
2. Even before using apt-get today, I had ORCA and it runs when I boot the
system. But, no braille is available when running ORCA. One possible hint is
that when I run a command like:
orca -v or
orca -e braille
I get a message saying GtkWarning: could not open display.
Does this mean the braille display?
Thanks for any advice.
