[orca-list] Problem with gnome-speech and/or espeak or something else

The latest gnome-speech builds fine with the latest espeak. I just built
it a bit ago but I'm having another odd problem. I have to start the
/usr/bin/espeak-synthesis-driver manually in order to  get test-speech
to speak. It detects the server fine but will not automatically start
the synth driver.
