Orca edgy and sound issue

Hello fellow listers,

  I recently just installed Edgy beta with gnome 2.16. While I was
impressed and it flew faster then anything I have ever seen, I rebooted
one day and I get no sound. I was confused. So I rebooted with the live
CD which did have sound. I found that this didn't provide any sound at
all. So i said, hmmmm I'll reinstall. So I reinstalled and still, I have
no sound. The only thing I did was adjust my microphone, and my mic did
work after that, but when I rebooted 2 or so times later it did not. I'm
a little concerned of what happened here. I hope my sound card in my
laptop is not fried...can someone help  me I'm sorry this question isn't
directly related to orca but....just a little concerned here.
