IMHO, this isn't a Orca related issue, but it occurs due your sound card doesn't support hardware mixing.
I use a Sound Blaster PCI128 sound card that is able to use multi channel.
As far as I remember, it isn't.
It works under Windows ME on my machine.
Maybe Windows ME does software mixing. ALSA can do software mixing with the dmix plugin as well, so 'aptitude install libesd-alsa0' should solve your problem. Yea, I know you use a Debian based distro. :-) cheers Henning
