thank you I'll check the peroperties of orca. When I run orca from the 
commnand line, i get an error no speech something sorry for my incredibly 
bad feedback. I'm still having trouble deciding what to type at the server 
prompt in test speech. do I need to type festival-synthesis-driver? or what

give me a break, I'm blonde! <smile> seriously, thank you for all yoru 
help...

Hi all

Cody select the driver that you want to use from Orca, I suppose you want to 
use festival, so select it.
If everything is OK test-speech has to give some speaking through festival. 
So then you can use it from Orca.
