There is one thing it could be, depending upon where and when you got the
version of Orca you are using. From about last Tuesday afternoon to last
Wednesday morning (U.S. Pacific time), there was a version of Orca in
CVS HEAD that didn't properly speak messages that appeared a Gaim
chat window. It also didn't echo results of issuing commands in a terminal
window. It was fixed on Wednesday morning. Cody, if you are getting
Orca from CVS HEAD and you see both these problems, trying checking
out a new version and try again. If not, then I'll let you work with Will on
IRC to try to fix the problem.

This brings up the issue of knowing exactly what version of Orca 
everybody is
using. The approach I've taken with this in gcalctool (the GNOME 
calculator),
is to *always* increment the last digit in the version number string in the
configure.in file for *every* single change that I check in. The middle 
digit is
incremented for every tarball release I make. The initial digit is 
incremented
for major changes to the application. The version number is easily available
to the user in the Help->About dialog and that helps me track down exactly
which version they are using, even if they are getting it from CVS HEAD.

I propose we do something similar with Orca. As we don't have a GUI, I
propose that a key sequence (Insert-? maybe) automatically speak/braille
the version number, so that users can include that in their problem reports.
