[gnome-love] Power use Benchmarks was Re: Power management is not efficient

Hi Folks,

Does anyone have testing data for power use benchmarks between gnome
version 2.32 and gnome 3? I am debating an upgrade and I understand
gnome 3 uses the GPU more heavily.

Hello Ritesh,
You have two options to resolve your issue:
1. Run the following command as root user,

echo OFF > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

Above command will work only if your kernel supports switchable graphics.

2. Or install Bumblebee

Above steps will turn off the NVIDIA card and your battery life will be
restored.

Hi Ritesh,
My system configuration is Core i3, 6 GB ram nd 320 GB HDD and NVIDIA
410M GPU. you asked for other config like gpu, system load and various
other factors. Actually I am new to linux. Could you help to how to
get the system load, gpu driver details and what are the other factors
which are helpful?

Hi

Insufficient data for meaningful answer. Your system configuration ( gpu
driver), system load, and various other factors come into play.

Hello, I am using Kali linux x64 on my laptop. I found that its power
management is not so efficient as compared to windows 7. In windows, I
get
3 hours of backup while in Kali, i get only 2 hours. Is there any way
to
solve this problem. I think, Kali uses GNOME for the GUI and this
problm
may be that of GUI. Thats why I posted here. I possible, I want to work
on
it to solve this issue. Need help for this.
