dcbw/runtime up for preliminary review and testing

Hi,

Quite a few fixes piled on top of a rebased and squashed pavlix/runtime.
Please test and review; comments can go into
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702488 for now.

One thing that's not really implemented yet (but not necessary at this
point) is better connection matching between the generated connection
and the persistent ones, but that's a refinement not a requirement.
