wired connections options inactive

hello i have installed on my laptop debian 7.10.my wired connection works perfetct .the problem is when i go to options of the wired connection i can't change anything the setting are inactive (grey out).what do you suggest i do ? is it better to install a newer version of network manager ? if yes how i can do this.
