Could you attach /var/log/messsages (or other file where NetworkManager logs)?
Do you use nm-applet or gnome-shell stuff?
Any errors in dmesg?
$ nmcli dev status
$ nmcli con list
> diversity:~ # iwconfig wlan0 essid "ChinaNet-Starbucks"
> diversity:~ # dhclient wlan0
> ls: cannot access /var/run/netconfig//wlan0/: No such file or directory

That's OpenSuse specific. You probably didn't configure stuff properly usig YAST.
