Problem connecting with 3G

Hi all,

I use an Asus UL30A laptop with dual boot, win7 and ubuntu maverick,
both 32bit.
On windows I can easily access the O2 mobile broadband connection, but
on ubuntu this becomes impossible.
I set up a connection using the network-manager wizard with the details
I got from the windows connection manager and when I try to connect
after a fairly long pause I get the message GSM disconnected.
The hardware is recognised correctly but I get this message in the
syslog:
