I'm running KDE 4.5 on openSUSE 11.3 without any problems (also with
iwl4965 btw). However, I switched
to the NetworkManager plasmoid instead of knetworkmanager. According
to [1] KNetworkManager has a bug
in KDE 4.5, not sure though if that is your problem ...
