associating -> disconnected

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 a Thinkpad with an
Atheros AR5418 using the ath9k module.
Now I'm having connection issues as shown in the logs below. I'm not
sure if this is a Network Manager issue or a problem with the driver.
Or if it's the supplicant.
Before upgrading it often took a minute or so to finally connect when
first booting. When waking up from sleep it connected very quickly.
Now it often does not connect at boot and I have to wait for it to
time out and prompt me for the password. If I then cancel and wait a
minute then I can ask nm-applet to connect to the AP again and it will
work.
Can you glean any helpful info out of these logs? Or is there
something I can do to enable better debugging?
