nm-applet WARNING - No network devices have been found

Greetings,

This is my first post on this forum. And obviously, I am pretty novice in
GNOME and related fields.

We are trying to integrate GNOME on OMAP3430 board.

The problem is the NetworkManager (version 0.7) does not recognise the
available network interfaces (while clearly ifconfig command gives a handful
of interfaces including a wireless LAN interface).

Here are the warnings that I get everytime, I click on the NetworkManager
icon on the board.

** (nm-applet:2760): WARNING **: No connections defined

** (nm-applet:2760): WARNING **: No networks found in the configuration
database

On the board, the message I get is "NO network devices have been found"
My questions are
1) Do I need to include info about the wireless LAN interface somewhere in
some initialization scripts?
2) Can this problem be related to wpa_supplicant used?

PS: I was able to successfully bring up the WLAN using CLI interface and was
even able to browse the web using wget. Infact, I could even open a browser
and browse the net from the board itself. However, the problem is with the
NetworkManager GUI which does not list any available network interfaces -
Wireless LAN interface in particular.

If any of you have encountered this problem and know a solution, kindly
share it with me.

thanks and regards,
pradeep.
