"wl", the proprietary "Broadcom STA wireless driver" for "Broadcom
Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315], installed by default. I'm not
sure how to display the version.

Strangely, when left on but with the screen closed for a few hours, the
tray icon mysteriously displayed the correct information, but the
nm-tool still showed no entries with a "*". This was repeatable - it
would start out showing no bars and (none), then the tray icon would
work suddenly work normally after an extremely long time.

Using the Windows driver with ndiswrapper seems to work properly from
the start (though it takes a bit longer to connect), and it does show
the "*". I guess I'll just use that.
