Thanks for responding.  Here are the answers to your questions.

1.  I am not running SELinux (disabled with kernel parameter selinux=0).
2.  Kernel version:  2.6.25.9-76.fc9.x86_64
3.  eth1 =  D-Link System Inc DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
4.  From dmesg:  skge eth1: Link is up at 1000 Mbps, full duplex, flow
control both
