It's really "hal detects your wireless card as an ethernet card".

You'll need dbus-1.1.x for that. Or, alternatively, you can run
wpa_supplicant manually before NetworkManager: as root,

wpa_supplicant -u

If that doesn't work, you haven't compiled in dbus support for wpa_supplicant.
