I installed the suggested packages but the same error message appears
in /var/log/messages:

Apr 21 00:14:47 localhost NetworkManager: <WARN>  init_done(): Modem
initialization timed out

I am able to use my Samsung SGH-E300 mobile to connect to the internet
with gprsec.
I have a working chatscript from gprsec:
