nm-applet lies

Hi!
I just installed webmin and configured the "linux firewall" not
to block any traffic. Now the Gnome nm-applet says that the machine is
not connected to the network. This is wrong because network works fine.
Do you have any idea why nm-applet lies?
How can this be repaired?
