Try removing these lines from gnome/vpn-properties/Makefile.am for the
time being:

-        -DG_DISABLE_DEPRECATED                          \
-        -DGDK_DISABLE_DEPRECATED                        \
-        -DGNOME_DISABLE_DEPRECATED                      \
