It now works, but with a few more 'bugs'. I recompiled after updating my source from cvs. I also recompiled with ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var /usr/bin/nm-applet --sm-disable works, and now I am able to launch it without root privileges. So, thanks for that. It also saves the WEP key, so that's good news. Now, the bad news. I am trying to connect to my home network by selecting it from the menu. It says connecting, requesting WEP key, but the window for the key doesn't popup. But it does connect by selecting "Connect to other wireless Networks".
