A bit of a shame ... cause we would like to add it to Dropline Gnome, a Gnome desktop for Slackware users.

Hopefully it works when hitting 2.14 then.

More or less, yes.  NM needs the stuff in the backend file to work, and
nobody has volunteered to fix the slackware backend for a while...
