Fixed. NM is now able to bring up the wired and wireless devices at boot
and to freely switch between the two.
Bug. NM does not seem to be able to determine the active device. My
wireless device is not marked as active but it is working fine. An
artifact of this bug is that hovering over the panel icon always shows
100% link quality. 'iwconfig eth1' shows the correct link quality.
Bug or feature. I booted to wireless when my campus DHCP server was
either overloaded or out of ip addresses. The wireless device associated
with an AP but did not obtain an ip address. NMI timed out and then the
panel icon disappeared. What I would like to see happen is
1. NMI times out
2. NMI stops all wireless devices and shows that they are stopped in the
context menu. As a consequence the panel icon changes to the 'no
connection' icon.
3. User chooses 'Start All Wireless Devices' from the context menu as
needed.
ipw2200-1.0.2 report. The main issue for the ipw2200 driver continues to
be failures to load firmware at boot or firmware restarts. These
failures do not always occur which makes them hard to trace. I saw this
frequently with the 2.6.9 kernels, especially when using NM. I did not
see this with the 2.6.10 kernels. I am seeing it again with the FC4
2.6.11 kernels. I am currently reloading the modules at the end of the
boot process to workaround this issue. In rc.local I have added.
/sbin/rmmod ipw2200
/sbin/rmmod ieee80211
/sbin/modprobe ipw2200
