Nautilus has one mostly permanent maintainer (I say "mostly" as he's
currently on leave), the current maintainer is busy so he doesn't have
a lot of time to do much but patch review. And then there are
currently maybe 3 of us who work on Nautilus on a somewhat daily
basis, maybe 5 of us who work on a weekly basis. Nautilus has 1822
open bugs as of this writing, with 558 of them being feature requests,
and we get roughly 30 new bugs a day (most of which are duplicates,
which takes time out of our day doing nothing but closing those).
We're simply extremely short staffed.

Therefore, the best way to make things better is to get involved and
send patches. We love them. We'll do our best to get them reviewed
(and committed if they are correct and behave how we want) as soon as
possible. I'm trying my best to push the patch backlog right now, but
it's difficult work, and we have ~120 patches waiting for review.
Nautilus is Free Software; you get out of it exactly what you put into
it. And of course, since this feature is so simple as you say, it
shouldn't take but a couple of minutes out of your day to come up with
the patch, right? I'll be right here to review it!

Thanks for your concerns,
-A. Walton
