The confusion between power-of-2 and power-of-10 is all the fault of
drive manufacturers' marketing departments who wanted to advertise more
capacity than what they really sold. You can't realistically make
power-of-10-sized RAM of flash chips, and the rotating harddrives are a
dying species, so the power-of-2 sizes are here to stay.
