I know that, Matthias. That seems to be about the default gnome reply
when a user doesn't like something. Or the reply is: "make a patch for
it". I just find it strange that a working feature doesn't get
disabled but just thrown away.
100% pure waste of development time.

And if you want to remove stupid things from nautilus/gnome then i
have a few more (sarcasm):
- the 2 panels that slide in never goes smooth.. feel free to remove
it (including the gconf settings)
- the text inside icons makes nautilus slower so remove that as well
(can be turned off, i know)
- thumbnailing images.. why do that if they are way out of proportion
to the icons.. so remove it
- Remove the options to have icons on the desktop because there is no
proper grid to align them on anyway
- What's the use of the now bloated gedit if we have "vi" as well? remove it.
- What's the use of gnome-panel anyway.. we have lighter and faster
alternatives. remove it.
- nautilus itself is a waste and bulky.. why not replace it by thunar
or dolphin?
- Who ever invented icon view... lets remove it and introduce color
codings. a unique color for each file. and displaying a rainbow for
folders with a lot of files (10k+)

Every point i made above would be a (to say it nice) not so good
decision to make (with the exception of the first one) but to me it
does seem to be that just one dev (perhaps 2) is in control of issues
that can be that big. "one" developer might not like and remove it. It
might not mean that it's something that needs to be removed (like the
click and rename feature).

If a bunch of people reply in bugzilla all voting for a feature to
leave and that gets done followed by a dozen new bug reports
requesting the feature to get back then you must be wondering where
things have gone the wrong way. And in generic it's harder to get a
feature in a program then to get something out so the ones requesting
it to get in will always have a harder time then the ones that wanted
it out.

Don't get me wrong. I do use gnome at this moment and will probably
keep using it for the time being but that doesn't mean that i like
gnome or the decisions that are made by the developers (not pointing
to you in particular but your part of it). There just isn't much other
decent choice out there. KDE 4.1 is still to unstable and all others
are all just to little. It would all be so much nicer if the gnome
people would just listen to the users and don't treed them like they
know nothing and must be saved from some unknown evil at all cost.
