Icon from JPEG feature broken in 2.20?

If you have some time to spare, please try following: 

Find directory containing bunch of bigger (in filesize terms) JPEG
images (e.g. from your digital camera) and try to set icon of this
directory to any of the photos. This thumbnailing feature seems to be
broken for some reason in 2.20, see details here

Can anyone confirm this one?

(I had been using custom icons for directories to visually differentiate
various photo shooting sessions and after upgrade to 2.20 I've noticed
something had gone wrong.)
