In spacial mode there is a "parent folder"-button in the lower left
corner.

How about using this to drop files, a short handover should open the
parent-folders list and user can drop into one of the parent folders.

This is not completely like "spring-loaded folders", and would not
infringe the patent perhaps. (it doesnt load the hover-ed folder into
the window, we cant do this without breaking spacial)
