I had originally planned to do that as tabs but having a path bar on the
status bar is a far more elegant and unobtrusive way of doing the same
thing. As for clicking them, left and middle clicking the path bar would
behave the same way as it does with folders and I plan on making that
configurable. 

The first bug I was going to implement by allowing GConf keys to define
what should happen when you left click and middle click folders/path bar
(options would be Open Spatially, Open spatially with close behind and
Open in Same Window. The default of course would remain as it is now).
That way an advanced user could set up nautilius to work like Windows or
OS/X whilst still having some of the benefits of spatial nautilus -
mixing efficient drill down with spatial file management should give us
the best of both worlds.
