i found copies of Nautilus 2.4.1 and eel 2.4.1. i successfully compiled
and installed eel, but i still find complaints with Nautilus 2.4.1 for names
that were similar to those in the v2.5.5 attempt earlier (GTK+, Libart, others).
i suspect the system is missing a lot of toolkits, or toolkits are simply
outdated, and i can either go find updates for all of those or try Nautilus/eel
v2.3.something. it's odd that the configure script complains about some file
versions that appear to be later than needed. it also complained about eel v2.0
when i had just finished installing eel v2.4.1. i don't know what to make
of those last two.
thanks for the reply.
