Olaf, please read before replying.  If each file has a correct MIME
type, associated with it, regardless of the extension, users will NOT be
tricked into clicking icons which are Windows executables but attempt to
depict MP3 or picture files of cute feet.

(for all the rest of executable files, they generally need to be marked
executable, so I omit this point).

File type problems would be reduced greatly as well.
