alpha channels. I'm not exceptionally familiar with the inner workings
of XFree86 or any of the other X servers, but I believe this would
require an extension that creates a mild deviation from the X protocol
(somebody like Havoc would probably be better to comment on that).
With projects like XOuvert trying to bring this sort of
(usability-improving) eye candy to X, perhaps we will see it. But as
Havoc said, you need to petition your friendly neighborhood XFree86
developer.
