I'm no usability specialist but I suppose that wouldn't be that nice.
IMO it's confusing if a program looks different as soon as I connect my
computer to a network. Probably it would be better to just visually
deactivate unused nodes because I think that space isn't that much of a
problem if we keep the tabs on the left side. In a usual window size
there is space for about 10 to 12 tabs and I think that's already on or
above the upper limit before a user looses the overview.
