Mounting network filesystems, filesystem images, etc. using the UI

Apple's OSX makes the kernel filesystem support available via the file
manager, so that users can mount SMB shares (for instance), and not have
to use only applications that support a special library (Gnome-VFS, for
example). It would be nice if this type of functionality was available
with Nautilus as well, so that I could mount smb://fileserver/share at
~/mounts, or something, and it would get an icon on the desktop. The
"disks" menu makes items defined in /etc/fstab available, but t/vhat's
all. The same features would be nice for mounting image files (ISOs,
floppy disk images, etc.).

Thoughts?
