if I remember correctly, the hotplug scripts were not designed to do
things like this, and a more appropriate place to put it would be in a
library like the various conduits for Evolution and such that talk to
gpilotd; the hotplug script is a horrible place for these user-level
tasks.  While one doesn't exist yet, I don't think it would be too hard
to write a simple "conduit" that exec()'s something on sync or something
along those lines.
