Hmm, I think I was kind of thinking out loud when I said that  :o) 
Alt+Home (which is what our friends at M$ use) might be more
appropriate, as Ctrl+Home ought to conflict with 'select first icon in
view and add it to current selection'.  (Although I don't think it does,
currently, because the icon view selection model is a little
non-standard w.r.t. the rest of GNOME IIRC).
