How bout a "To Cancel, Drop Here" item, perhaps next to the throbber.
When you start dragging, it would become active by lighting up the word
"Cancel" or something. It wouldn't actually have to *do* anything as
dropping on the toolbar already cancels, but it may make it more clear.

Good to know, that works to me. Wether it is a easy for a beginner
to see this possibility or wether it is a good UI design is another
question.
