Ok, you typically get the "You are root blah blah, it's bad for your
karma.." when you are logged on as root. The reason is obvious.
The important idea here is that if Nautilus for some reason dies,
it restarts. If you are root, you will get the "You are root..." screen.
If Nautilus dies all the time, you will get the "You are root..." screen
all the time!

(In fact this feature to warn if you are root is quite good for my testing
purposes with i18n and I run it only as root, as I have to exit+rerun
several times :).

If you are a normal user, Nautilus will dies and respawn very quickly
without any indication, having the effects you described.
