Hi Dan,
I noticed the News sidebar panel crashes too, so I ran it under gdb
(if you turn off a sidebar panel, run it under gdb, and then use the
"backtrace" command when it crashes, that's a great way to get
backtraces that make for great bug reports).
I found what I think is the source of the news panel crashes;
coincidentally it was also the cause of a bug I noticed last night
where typing in an invalid http URI would crash Nautilus. The bug was
related to some of the changes made to allow for https support.
I just commited a change to gnome-vfs which fixes the problem
(gnome-vfs-1 branch for now, I'll commit on HEAD as soon as it's done
building).
