hello.
I had also problems trying to compile gnome-vfs-1 branch on debian unstable.
problems with autoconf 2.52 .
After i commented strings from 6234-6243 in ./aclocal m4 and
executed autoheader; automake --add-missing --gnu;autoconf i got Makefile.
It is not exactly fix but at least you can compile nautilus on Debian
