I don't like the idea of forcively making usage inconsistant across platforms, especially as some PowerPC's might have 3-button mice. I would much rather have the choice be up to the user.

Now that the trayicon is a plugin and (I think) not installed by default, I personally don't see anything against having a configuration dialog associated with it. And letting the user decide between a wide variety of options (Click to play/pause, click to show, click for menu, click to add song) could be a good idea.

No, not that I'm aware of. Since all mice of the last 10 years speak the
same protocol, it's hard (if not impossible) to tell the difference between
them. Mac-detection is way easier (just look for the cpu model), but a lot
of people use multiple-button mice on Macs .
