Contributions Summary:
I am interested in applying for membership in the Gnome Foundation. Admittedly, the vast majority of my work
has been with the Sugar Labs and OLPC downstreams, but I have (and will continue to) reach out to "show some
love to the upstream".
The warm relationship between the Gnome Foundation and the Sugar Labs and OLPC downstreams are a matter of
record:
http://www.gnome.org/press/2008/12/sugar-labs-the-nonprofit-behind-the-olpc-software-is-joining-the-gnome-foundation/
http://www.gnome.org/press/2010/06/sugar-learning-platform-and-gnome-desktop-now-shipping-on-the-one-laptop-per-child-xo-1-5/
My participation in these downstream communities dates back to 2007. My involvement with L10n dates back to
April of 2008. Since somewhere in 2008 - 2009 I took on the role of Sugar Labs Translation Team Coordinator.
More recently, elected by community to Sugar Labs Oversight Board for two-year term in 2011 In my capacity
as Sugar Labs Translation Team Coordinator I have performed extensive outreach to our upstreams. Notable
accomplishments of that out-reach effort as related to Gnome have been:
a) Creating a "trail of breadcrumbs" in our Pootle instance and wiki to direct our substantial L10n community
to upstream projects we use.
http://translate.sugarlabs.org/projects/upstream_l10n/
http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Translation_Team/Upstream_localization
b) Establishment and maintenance of an "OLPC Release Set" on the Gnome Damned Lies server, allowing our
localizers to easily identify the Gnome bits that flow downstream to Sugar / OLPC for the purpose of
targeting their upstream efforts in these areas after exhausting the local supply of strings. Claude Paroz
created it, I maintain it.
http://l10n.gnome.org/releases/olpc/
c) Established hosting of Gnash L10n (coordinating with Rob Savoye) on our Pootle instance:
http://translate.sugarlabs.org/projects/upstream_POT/
d) Coordinated with GCompris leadership (Bruno Coudoin) on temporary local hosting of GCompris PO files in
"rarer" or non-glibc locale languages on Sugar Labs Pootle instance.
