Hi. I'm using meld on Windows (with tortoisesvn too) and does not have such slow startups, except on first
run.
The first one run (cold afler boot or install) startup for diffing small file takes 20-30 seconds.
But all subsequent executions are much faster - near 3-4 seconds until diff is displayed.
So if your startups are always slow the problem seems to be configuration-dependent
I've checked that for meld installed from msi and
meld 3.14.2 git checkout executed with separately installed python2.7 and
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pygobjectwin32/files/pygi-aio-3.18.2_rev5-setup.exe/ (selected GTK and
GtkSourceView)
I can suggest executing meld from checkout (install dependencies above) with seeing python console window
It can be made visible by directly specifying python.exe as Tortoisesvn diff tool like:
D:\Python27\python.exe d:\apps\meld-git\bin\meld %base -L %bname %mine -L %yname
For me it outputs only two lines and starts in 3-4 seconds:
Couldn't bind the translation domain. Some translations won't work.
[Error 126]
Hi,
Just to add that this is not a quirk in your machine.
I am also on Windows 7 64bit and I am using Meld as the diff and merge tool for TortoiseGit.
I am also waiting for meld to open. It is very annoying indeed.
My meld version is also 3.14.2. I don’t see a later MSI build.
Best regards,

Subject: Very slow Windows startup
Dear List members,
Having installed 3.14.2 on Windows 7 64bit for use with TortoiseSVN, I noticed the start up lag is
intolerably slow (about 30-40 sec). Makes rapid svn diffs
hard to do. Shame, because on Linux meld merge is by far the best tool.
It is quite possible that this is quirk of my machine or due to some anti-virus software (over which I have
no control).
Does anyone have any ideas on how to trouble shoot this ?
Much appreciated,
Gertjan
