Unfortunately, directories are much much simpler. There are algorithms out there to do diffs for structured data, and they're very cool, but they're also very different to the simple LCS-based diffs that we currently do.

I'm not sure whether displaying these diffs inside Meld would work very well with the UI, but I certainly wouldn't have a problem if someone wanted to try it out.
