Alt+[ freezes mc

Dear all,

I have a minor problem while using MC.
Especially in mcedit, I often use the Alt+p formatting keystroke. Often
enough it happens that I accidentally hit Alt+[ instead. 
As a consequence, mc or mcedit are frozen for several seconds. It seems
to wait for further input?

Maybe there is a simple fix?
