No, that's not possible, and we wouldn't want to make it possible for
the reasons described above.
I know it has problems but nothing is ideal. xdg-open has more
problems because it opens all files in browser ( i know, i can use
gvfs-open or exo-open, but it is parts of DE and I don't want to
install it ).
You can use run-mailcap instead.
