That sounds extremely strange. Ubuntu 10.10 is Maverick, right? I have
4.7.0.9 packages in my PPA and they seemed to build just fine:

https://launchpad.net/~zyv/+archive/ppa

I can't see why it would matter for git master. I don't remember any
gettext related changes in a while...
