OK.
It just so happens that I generate/save a lot like:-
comp.lang.functional.533
which semms ok.
Decoding the 'regex-decoding' in the mc 'script'
is hard work, for me.
But mc seldon lets me down, except now I need to:-
find the file, in dir-tree which contains the <ascii-string>;
where the file does NOT have unix/DOS eol.
It's got the 'other' eol.

You will find the clue in mc.ext. The files you are having trouble with
are named as if they were 'man' (software manual) files. Try Shift-F3
(or Shift-F1 if that fails) to view the file raw.
Why it affects F4 I do not know.

Yes, thanks !
I'll avoid FileNames = *.*.*
It seems that I was wrong F4 doesn't have a problem.
That's how I was able to confirm that the contents was OK.
By changing the FileName F3 even allows to see the binary,
incase there are invisible chars.
BTW I hate the man 'format': with wastefull LH-margins - for pencil-notes.
And absurd lineBreaks like "re-
sult...." !!
Just don't use an extension beginning with a number, and all should be well.
