In Debian Lenny (not checked if this section is already in the main
mc distribution) the following section is included in /etc/mc/mc.ext.

# .tar.lzma, .tlz
regex/\.t(ar\.lzma|lz)$
        Open=%cd %p#utar
        View=%view{ascii} lzma -dc %f 2>/dev/null | tar tvvf -

How is the name of your tar + lzma file? Maybe the file is not
recognized.
