crypt/shadow vs pam

i manually edited the config.h file to enable crypt/shadow instead of pam; 
also, i changed the makefile variable MCSERVLIBS to state -lcrypt instead 
of -lpam -ldl.

surely there must be a cleaner way to achieve this. ;-)
